A historic downtown building is being reimagined as a gathering place for Skagit Valley food, hospitality, and community.
A 1920 brick building on South 1st Street is getting ready for its next chapter. Sysoma Partners is moving forward with plans to restore 307 South 1st Street, bringing new food businesses and boutique guest accommodations to the heart of downtown Mount Vernon.
The building has stood for more than a century, with its original masonry walls and old-growth Douglas fir framing still intact. Rather than replacing what's there, the project will preserve its character and give it new life.
Over the past four months, the Sysoma team has been getting to know Mount Vernon through conversations with local business owners, farmers, neighbors, and community leaders. One thing kept coming up: the extraordinary food culture of the Skagit Valley and the opportunity to bring more of it into downtown.
The current vision includes a restaurant featuring the valley's agricultural abundance, a second food business, potentially a bakery, and a small alley café and bar serving coffee by day and wine in the evening. Upstairs, four boutique guest suites will offer visitors a place to stay and explore downtown on foot.
The plans are still taking shape, and that's intentional. Sysoma is looking to connect with local chefs, restaurateurs, food entrepreneurs, and neighbors who have ideas for what the building could become.
The project has completed feasibility, with design and entitlements now underway.
